1. Study of the current state of pasture vegetation of the arid zone of Uzbekistan by mapping. Identification of pasture load, the degree of degradation and productivity of pastures by season. Formation of a list of forage crops of pastures of arid regions of Uzbekistan, analysis of forage plants by biomorphs, biotopes and consumption. Development of recommendations on the sustainable use of pastures of specific administrative or geographical territories of the republic.
2. Identification of rare plant communities in need of protection, common in the vegetation cover of Uzbekistan, assessment of their current state and development of protection measures. Preparation of essays of rare communities for the publication of the Green Book of Uzbekistan.
3. Bioclimatic modeling of species of special importance in Central Asia by geochronological periods (Late Neogene and Middle Quaternary) and assessment of the role of peculiar phytogeographic regions in the formation of vegetation cover.
4. Study of the current trends in vegetation development and identification of the impact of individual components of desertification (climate change, the drying up of the Aral Sea and the development of the oil and gas sector) on the ecosystems of the Aral Sea region. Determination of changes occurring in the vegetation cover formed on the bottom of the Aral Sea, and development of practical recommendations for the effective use of pastures.
5. Compilation of an electronic database of existing geobotanical description forms and development of an ecological scale of plants of Uzbekistan.

Achievements of the laboratory

In 2007-2011, a fundamental project “Transformation and haloadaptation features of the vegetation cover of Southwestern Kyzylkum and Aralkum”. Within the framework of the project, the peculiarities of transformation and phytocoenotic diversity of vegetation of the studied region were determined and the map “Vegetation cover of Kukchatau” (M1:100000) was compiled. The factors of desertification (mechanisms) were identified and criteria for assessing the degree and scale of plant degradation in the research area were developed. To determine the current state of plants under anthropogenic pressure, the age states of edificators and the patterns of exposure of the Kuldzhuktau slopes were determined. The ecological, biological, and physiological features of edificators and dominant species in various plant communities were studied in connection with their yield, which is the theoretical basis for improving degraded territories. In order to determine the resistance of edificators and dominant species of the Southern and Northern slopes of Kuldzhuktau to the halofactor in comparative indicators, their physiological adaptation was studied. The salt content in the soil, which determines the nature of desertification, is determined, the viability of plants in the areas of the Aral Sea and the territories of the Kyzylkum collection is determined as an indicator of stress resistance.
2012-2014 applied project on the topic “Assessment of the current state of ecosystems of pastures of Central Kyzylkum”. As part of the project, a “Map of the pastures of the array of Kukcha” (M 1:200000) was prepared and an explanation was made to it. The area and seasonal yield of the aboveground part were determined, the degree of degradation of pasture differences was indicated by the indices A, B, V. In total, 8 types of pastures and 18 cartographic units were identified on the map, 13 of them pasture differences. In total, 37 families of vascular plants, 116 genera and 160 species were registered in the pasture differences of the array of Kukcha. The biochemical composition of 17 dominant species of forage plants was studied. Three rare species of Lagochilus inebrians, Lagochilus gypsaceus, Juno hippolyti, Tulipa michaeliana and Tulipa lehmanniana are found in the ecosystems of the array of Kukcha. The bioecological properties of forage plants in the Kyzylkum steppe were studied, and it was found that 16 out of 40 species continue their long life cycle.
In 2015-2017, an applied project on the topic “Assessment of the state of coenopopulations of rare and endangered plant species of the remnants of Kyzylkum lowlands in connection with desertification”. Within the framework of the project, 59 coenotic populations of rare and endangered species of the Kyzylkum remnant mountains were studied — Iris hippolyti (Vved.) Kamelin, Astragalus kuldzhuktauense F. O. Khass., Shomurodov & Esankulov,
A. holargyreus Bunge, A. centralis E. Sheld., Stipa aktauensis Roshev, Ferula kyzylkumica Korovin, Lepidium subcordatum Botsch. et Vved., Tulipa lehmanniana Merckl., T. borszczowii Regel, T. micheliana Hoog., Eremostachys eriolarynx Pazij et Vved., Scorzonera bungei Krasch. et Lipsch. Ontogenetic structures and types of their coenopopulations are revealed. On the basis of the selected organismic and population characteristics, the current state of the coenopopulations of rare species of Kyzylkum is estimated. Maps of the distribution of the studied coenopopulations with a reflection of their vital state are compiled. Based on the results of the study, the monograph “Coenopopulations of rare and endangered plant species of the remains of Kyzylkum lowlands” was published.
In 2016-2017, an applied project on the topic “Cadastre of rare and endangered species of vascular plants and vertebrates of the Kashkadarya region”. Within the framework of this project, a cadastral list (summary) of the flora of the Kashkadarya region was compiled for the first time, which includes 2023 plant species from 617 genera and 103 families. During the critical analysis of the herbarium materials of TASH, 12 species new to the flora of Uzbekistan were identified. A cadastral list of 88 plant species included in the Red Book of Uzbekistan from the Kashkadarya region has been compiled. Of these, 39 species are national endemics, 1 species is included in the IUCN Red List, 1 species is included in CITES. The current state of populations of Dianthus uzbekistanicus Lincz., Eremurus robustus (Regel) Regel, Salvia lilacinocoerulea Nevski., Allium jesdianum subsp. angustitepalum (Wendelbo) F.O. Khass. & R.M. Fritsch., Tulipa fosteriana W. Irving и Iris magnifica (Vved.) F.O. Khass. & Rakhimova were estimated.
2018-2020 application project “Cadastre of rare and endangered vascular plants of Navoi and Bukhara regions”. A list of vascular plants of the Navoi region has been compiled, including 90 families, 509 genera and 1561 species. The regions of the botanical and geographical distribution of these taxa in the Navoi region are determined. Based on the database of the central herbarium and the analysis of the literature, a cadastral list of 43 plant species included in the Red Book was compiled. Of these, 26 species are national endemics. A GIS map of the distribution of species listed in the “Red Book” was compiled and the ontogenetic structure of 21 species of coenopopulations was studied. Based on the analysis of existing and newly collected materials, the state cadastral form of rare and endangered species is filled out, consisting of a total of 205 research points.
In 2017-2020, the fundamental project “Modern trends in the development of the flora and fauna of Ustyurt in the process of desertification”. Within the framework of the fundamental project, a mechanism for restructuring the plant community of Karakalpakstan was determined. Based on the NMDS analysis, the indicators of Kernel density (f) and the nature of the distribution of communities in the process of succession were shown, as well as changes in the vegetation cover of the studied region in the future were estimated. In some key communities of Central and Northern Ustyurt, changes were also detected, reflected by the weakening of the status or loss of dominant species, as well as deviations from the NMDS confidence limit (95%) of the variable parameters of plant communities. In recent years, it has been found that the decrease in the biodiversity index in mesophyte communities is associated with a positive correlation with the polydominant index with unfavorable conditions, such as the drying of the Aral Sea. On the basis of neural-regressive and neural-cluster analyses based on an increase in xerophytic and halophytic plants in the species structure of Eastern Chink communities, their progressive trend in the future is also based (r2=0.03). On the basis of bioclimatic modeling, the role of the Ustyurt Plateau in the conservation of biodiversity in Central Asia was determined by the historical trends in the formation of the bottom plants of Ustyurt in different geochronological periods of the Earth (140,000, 20,000, 6000 BC). E.) taking into account climatic conditions. The dynamics of edificators of the Ustyurt Plateau was determined in connection with climatic scenarios (RCP 2.6, RCP 4.5, RCP 6.0, RCP 8.5) and in the future (2100), the levels of area development and regression were classified.
